Episode 45: Road to Resilience | Kim Okabe's Unyielding Journey on Two Wheels
The true essence of motorcycling isn't found in cruising down straight, unchallenging roads; it's in the exhilaration of navigating every curve, twist, and turn that the path presents. It's a journey that encapsulates not just the thrill but also the inherent risks and dangers. This sense of adventure goes hand in hand with an understanding that even the most experienced riders can face unexpected falls. It's here, in the midst of these challenges, that the concept of resilience becomes paramount - defined as the capacity to recover from difficulties or to become strong, healthy, or successful again after adversity.
In today's episode of the Motovation podcast, we're honored to welcome Kim Okabe, a remarkable embodiment of resilience. Kim's journey of endurance began early, moving out on her own at just 13. Her resilience was further tested through life's harsh blows: the sudden loss of her mother shortly after obtaining her motorcycle license, a severe foot injury in 2017, and enduring a traumatic crash in 2021 that resulted in broken wrists. These events could easily have been reasons enough for anyone to decide not to get back up – but not for Kim Okabe.
Despite these setbacks, Kim's passion for riding remained unshaken. She logged an impressive 32,000 kilometers in her first year of riding, followed by an astounding 56,000 the next year. After each crash, she returned to her bike as soon as she physically could. Her determination led her to take over The Litas Vancouver in 2019, where she now works tirelessly with The Litas OGs, empowering women worldwide to embrace their strength and passion for riding.
Today, we dive into Kim's 'Road to Resilience.' Her story isn't just about overcoming physical injuries; it's about an unwavering spirit that refuses to stay down. It's about facing life's harshest challenges with a quiet determination and emerging stronger. Join us as we explore Kim's inspiring journey, a testament to the power of resilience and the unbreakable spirit of a rider who, no matter the fall, always chooses to get back up.
